Fishing Boundaries:

Fishing boundaries extend from Bream Tail in the south to Home Point at Whangaruru in the north and out to and including Sail Rock, the Hen and Chicken Islands and the Mokahinau Islands and all harbours inside that area. 

All marine reserves are excluded.

 
 

General

  • All local & national bylaws/regulations must be adhered to by every competitor.

  • Tickets must be purchased prior to fishing or spearfishing.

  • Fishing/Spearfishing may commence after the briefing at 6pm 20th Nov 2015.

  • It’s recommended that you attend the briefing, for rules, safety/weather info.

  • All fish weighed in must be caught by the ticket holder.

  • All competitors must have their ticket with them at weigh in. No ticket, No weigh!

  • The Weighmaster decision is final.

  • In the event of a draw, the FIRST FISH weighed in will be the winner.

  • All legal limits on fish length applies.Except kingfish must be at least 850mm.

  • Competitors shall only weigh in two fish for the average weight.

  • Competitors may use rods, hand lines and hand spear guns only.

  • Juniors are 12 years and under.

  • Weigh station opens 12pm inside and the marquee.

  • Weigh in closes at 4.30pm sharp 21st Nov 2015, you must be inside the marquee queued for weigh in at 4.30pm for you catch to be weighed.

  • Prize giving will start at 5.30pm for the juniors and 7pm for the seniors 21st Nov.

  • Competitors must be present at prize giving to receive their prize, if not present the next placed fish will be promoted or a draw will be undertaken.

  • Competition organiser’s decision is final.

  • Competitors enter at their own risk.The event organisers, Marsden Cove Fishing Club and event sponsors accept no responsibility for loss, damage or other.

Spearfishing:

  • Competitors enter, dive and weigh in pairs.

  • All competitors must dive with a dive flag.

  • All competitors must dive with a float line and brightly coloured float.

  • Guns must be loaded by muscular force. Cartridge type, compressed gas guns and power heads are not permitted.

  • Competitors must free dive, scuba equipment is not permitted.

  • Team placings are determined by the highest placing team having the greatest total of points scored to the lowest placing team with the least.

  • All fish are presented gilled and guttered for the team weigh in, though for fish a competitor wishes to weigh in for the heaviest overall (against line fisherman), should be weighed in whole and then gilled and guttered for team weigh in.

  • It is the competitor’s responsibility to request the fish be weighed for the overall, it will not be automatic.

Weighing:

  • The minimum weight for all eligible fish is 500grams.

  • Teams may weigh in a maximum of two fish per target species, the exception is only one kingfish maybe weighed per team.

  • There will be one Weigh Master, one screening table and all fish will be checked and weighed for the minimum weight on digital scales.

  • Each team is responsible for sorting their own catch prior to presenting it to the Weigh Master.

  • Fish will be placed on the screening table, checked and sorted by the competitors and then ‘presented’ to the Weigh Master.Once ‘presented’ the fish cannot be handled by the competitors until all weighing and scoring is completed.

Scoring:

  • 100 points per eligible fish and then a further 10 points per kilogram.

  • Maximum weight to be scored for each fish will be 8 kilograms.

  • 100 point penalty points will be deducted from the teams total for the following breaches:

    • Fish that are less than 80% of the minimum weight.

    • An ineligible species or too many of an eligible species presented.

    • Fish that do not meet the MPI Fisheries regulations.

  • Any fish to receive a penalty will incur a maximum loss of 100 points.
